Kuwait and Its Humanitarian Standing.. Membership in the Human Rights Council, an International Recognition of Its Diplomatic Journey

Written by: Dr. Hany Khater

The election of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2027–2029 represents an important milestone in its international journey and reflects the esteem it enjoys within the international community thanks to its approach based on moderation, dialogue and respect for human dignity.

This achievement is not limited to being a new diplomatic accomplishment, but also represents an extension of the journey of a nation that has made humanitarian action and solidarity with peoples affected by crises an integral part of its policy and national principles.

For decades, Kuwait has provided humanitarian and relief initiatives covering many countries and contributed to alleviating the suffering of those in need and those affected by disasters and conflicts without discrimination, thereby reinforcing the image of a state that believes humanity is a shared responsibility that transcends borders and narrow interests.

Kuwaiti diplomacy has also succeeded in building international relations based on mutual respect and shared understanding and has sought to bring viewpoints closer together and support peaceful solutions to conflicts, which has strengthened its presence in international forums and consolidated its role in the fields of mediation and humanitarian action.

Membership in the Human Rights Council carries an important responsibility, namely to continue contributing to the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, supporting initiatives aimed at combating violations, spreading a culture of justice and equality and strengthening cooperation among states in a manner that serves human dignity and safeguards its rights.

The importance of this stage lies in the need to transform humanitarian principles into tangible practices that leave a real impact on the lives of peoples and support the building of safer and more stable societies, away from double standards or selectivity in dealing with human rights issues.

The international standing of Kuwait cannot be commended without appreciating the role of its political leadership and the efforts made by state institutions and its diplomatic bodies to strengthen its international relations, represent its interests and consolidate its presence in issues with a humanitarian dimension.

What Kuwait has achieved in terms of standing reflects the importance of the role that states can play through responsible diplomacy, humanitarian action and international cooperation. The true value of nations is not linked solely to their geographical size or material capabilities, but rather to what they contribute to humanity and the efforts they make to promote peace and safeguard human dignity.

From this perspective, the new membership represents an opportunity to continue contributing and expand areas of cooperation with states and international organizations in a way that strengthens confidence in the human rights system and supports efforts aimed at building a more just and equitable world.

As we take pride in this international achievement, we look forward to Kuwait’s participation in the Council being an extension of its humanitarian and diplomatic journey and contributing to supporting just causes and promoting the values of tolerance, coexistence and peace among peoples.

The Global Forum for Journalism and Media (GFJM) extends its sincere congratulations and best wishes to the State of Kuwait, its leadership and its people on the occasion of its election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2027–2029, expressing its pride in this international achievement, which reflects Kuwait’s standing and its role in supporting humanitarian action and promoting the values of justice, peace and human rights.

The Forum affirms that this achievement represents recognition of Kuwait’s diplomatic and humanitarian journey, wishing it continued progress and prosperity and further success in serving humanitarian causes and consolidating the principles of dignity, equality and coexistence among peoples.
