From the “Gold Diggers” to Resource Exploitation… Details Revealed of Egyptian Operations in the Eastern Desert

Egypt continues its operations to confront illegal gold prospecting activities and unregulated mining in border areas and the Eastern Desert, alongside efforts aimed at curbing smuggling activities and preserving mineral resources.

Details of the operations carried out by the Egyptian Armed Forces against what has been described as the “Empire of the Gold Diggers,” as well as the confessions of a number of those who surrendered, included information concerning activities linked to armed networks and smuggling operations across border areas.

The security operations did not target only illegal gold prospecting activities, but also extended to confronting organized networks operating in mountainous and border areas, taking advantage of the nature of these regions to engage in smuggling activities and unregulated mining.

The video infographic also addressed what it described as media and political campaigns associated with the Rapid Support Forces, which it said had attempted to exploit developments related to the prospecting and border issue, in addition to reviewing the official Sudanese position regarding these developments.

On the economic front, addressing the issue of illegal prospecting coincides with Egypt’s efforts to develop the mining sector and explore mineral resources through aerial and geophysical surveying, as well as offering investment opportunities to companies operating in this field.

This comes as part of Egypt’s efforts to make greater use of its natural resources and transform mining activities from random practices outside the official framework into an organized sector that contributes to attracting investment and maximizing the economic benefits of gold and mineral resources in the Eastern Desert.
