Dr. Zahir Al-Abbad
In a statement issued on behalf of the Kuwait Journalists Association, the International Forum for Journalism and Media, the International Union for Journalism and Media, and the Arab Media Unity Council, Dr. Zuhair Al-Abbad stressed the need for Gulf, Arab, and international media to assume their responsibilities during this sensitive phase by confronting anonymous and hidden accounts that—according to the statement—serve agendas aimed at inciting sectarian, intellectual, and political discord.
The statement explained that these accounts, along with some paid influencers, seek to undermine security and stability and weaken national unity, at a time when there is an increasing need for internal cohesion, strengthened trust, and solidarity with political leadership across the region.
Dr. Al-Abbad noted that the Gulf states are facing escalating challenges amid what he described as ongoing Iranian aggression, which—according to the statement—has resulted in civilian casualties and the targeting of airports and economic and service facilities, further intensifying tensions and complicating the regional landscape.
In this context, the statement emphasized the importance of Arab unity and collective action to confront current challenges, while also calling for an end to the war. It urged Iranian media to play an active role in pressuring their government to halt what was described as aggressive policies toward neighboring countries, particularly the Gulf Cooperation Council states.
The statement concluded by affirming that the current stage requires responsible media discourse that promotes stability and counters attempts to spread division, in a way that serves the interests of peoples and preserves the security and stability of states.
